After a bit of sleep in in the Chalet at Grindenwald we walked down to Grund railway station (alt 943m) and bought a 6 day alpine pass . There were a lot of Japanese tourists on the platform and we boarded the train with them bound for Kleine Scheidegg (alt 2061m). The Japanese tourists clearly were not walking as their cameras were way too heavy . From there we had a little conference ( well I did ) and decided to take the trail to Eigergleitscher (alt 2320m) – from the ridge there your are looking straight at the famous north wall of the Eiger ( actually we see it right outside our rooms window) .Half way along the trail we had an option to take the direct route or the more difficult “Morane” route. As it turned out the ridge wasn’t that difficult and much easier than the last Morrain we walked near Precipitous Bluff in Tassy. After reaching the station there we had soup for lunch at the restaurant . We decided it was not worth taking the train to Jungfraujoch – “Top of Europe”- as there would be a minimal view due to the cloud. So it was train back down to Kleine Scheidegg. From there we took the trail to Mannlichen (alt 2237m ) and then continued to the nearby peak Mannlichen Gipfel (2342m) — we were now higher than Mt. Kosioscko back in Oz. We met a Norwegian guy here and had a discussion about the recent sad happenings there – politics – travel – and the weather – all the locals we have met have said how cold this summer has been – but I guess it has made it in part more spectacular for us due to the unseasonal amount of snow. Then it was cable car back down towards Grund but we decided to get out halfway down at Holenstein and descend the last 650m( 4km trip) on foot.
Wow!!! looks amazing, bit cold…
